The Edinburgh Marriott Hotel is situated just beside the Maybury roundabout on the main route west out of the city on the Glasgow Road. It is very handy for the international airport and lies also very close to the city bypass. From the Marriott, continue towards the city centre on St Johns Road and Corstorphine Road for around two miles, passsing Edinburgh Zoo on your left. At Western Corner, the next set of lights, turn left and your in Ellersly Road, where the Ellersly House Hotel will come up on your right hand side.
Here are your best options and directions, should you need further detail, please E-mail the Event Organising Team Here!
BY AIR
- Edinburgh International Airport is your preferred destination. For outwith the UK, if you cannot get flights to Edinburgh, your best option is to route via London and catch one of the shuttles such as British Airways, British Midland, EasyJet or Ryanair.
-
Airport taxi to the Edinburgh Marriott Hotel will cost you approximately 5, and close on 10 to the Ellersly House Hotel. NB: Please make sure you ask for the Marriott Hotel at the Maybury Roundabout, and NOT the Marriott Dalmahoy...
-
Hire car? - Exit from the airport terminal roundabout, via Eastfield Road, which is marked "Exit all routes" then take the first exit merging on to the A8, signposted Edinburgh. Proceed for two miles following signs for City Centre, going through an underpass and arriving at Maybury roundabout and traffic lights. The hotel is just beyond this junction on your right hand side. Total distance, 2.4 miles, a further 2 miles takes you to the Ellersly.
BY RAIL
-
Check out Virgin Trains & Great North Eastern Railways for services to Edinburgh Waverley or Edinburgh Haymarket station.
-
Taxi from Waverley will cost you approximately 7 to the Ellersly and 12 to the Marriott, while Haymarket, if you can get off your train there, will cost a couple of pounds less.
BY ROAD
-
Coming from the south and west, Carlisle for example, follow the A74 to junction 13, then take the A702 for Edinburgh. Follow this road all the way, through Coulter, Biggar, West Linton, past the Hillend Ski Centre at Fairmilehead and on to the Lothianburn junction. Take the first exit following signs for Edinburgh City Centre, and merge on to the city bypass, A720, look for the signs for Forth Road Bridge and Glasgow. Drive past the Dreghorn junction and take the second exit from the Gogar Roundabout, following signs for City Centre. You will now arrive at the Maybury Junction as mentioned above, and the Marriott hotel is on the right hand side just beyond this.
-
Coming from the south and east, Newcastle for example, follow the A1 coast road until you pick up the Edinburgh City Bypass, A720. Proceed westwards until you reach the Gogar roundabout as mentioned above. Second exit for City Centre, Maybury Junction, and bingo, you've made it!
BY SEA
- Paddle your canoe up the River Forth until you pass under the Forth Railway Bridge, docking at the quay side on the south bank. Place canoe over left shoulder to balance the weight of your clubs, and hike southwards for five miles..... Sorry, no viable route by sea.
Here is the official weather forecast for Ratho and Edinburgh, the corresponding week, taken and issued on the morning of Monday, September 5, 2005. The temperatures quoted are taken from stations several hundred feet above ground level, so it should be 2 or 3 degrees warmer down on the fairways!
Although it's certain we won't have snow, it is likely you will experience a mixed bag of sun, wind and rain, but how much of each element is entirely up to the big fella up in the sky.... You can probably leave your tailored shorts at home, but don't forget a sweater, the trusty brolly, and lightweight waterproofs!
